California is a Top Two Primary State

It is important for our members and visitors to understand how California Primaries work; why we work so hard to get our candidates elected; AND WHY YOU ALL NEED TO VOTE!!

California legislators amended the California Constitution in 2010 resulting in all candidates for an office now appear on the primary ballot and the two candidates who receive the most votes in that primary advance to the general election in the fall, even if both candidates are from the same party.

The legislation was called the Top Two Primaries Act, which appeared as Proposition 14 on the June 8, 2010, ballot.

The consequence of the Top Two Primaries Act is alternative party platforms are curtailed from making it to the General Election. This limitation of broader policy platforms on the General Election ballot, when most voters are involved, betrays our founding principles.

Engagement of voters at each step in the election process is critical for a representative government.

Primary voter turnout is paramount to winning at the General Election!

Important Dates to Remember for the 2026 Primary Election:

  • March 2026 - Last date to file for candidacy
  • May 4, 2026 - Counties start to mail ballots
  • May 5, 2026 - Ballot drop-off locations open
  • May 18, 2026 - Last day to register to vote in the June 2, 2026 Primary Election
  • June 9, 2026 - Last day for the County to receive Vote-by-Mail ballots (and they must be postmarked on or before election day)

2026 Candidates Who have announced to Date.

Sheriff Chad Bianco Governor of CA

Michael Koslow US Congress, 26th District

Steve Hilton Governor of CA

Sheriff Bianco served Riverside County, the largest of CA counties, since 2018 where he stood against Newsom’s Pandemic Overreach, fought for the successful passing of Prop 36 to make Crime Criminal Again, and stabilized the budgets, staffing and partnerships in Riverside County’s Sheriff Department.

Sheriff Bianco intends to ensure law enforcement has adequate staffing and resources to respond to rising crime.

Recently, Sheriff Bianco has been very vocal on issues regarding keeping biologic men out of girls’ sports and early release of dangerous prisoners.

His recent comments on the LA riots against ICE officers:  “Every single person watching television right now in Los Angeles, in California, for that matter, knows that this is politics that have caused this.”  “Twenty years of liberal progressive politics, that have enabled criminal behavior and prevented law enforcement from doing our jobs, is where we are today. And people are absolutely sick of it."

Steve Hilton Governor of CA

Steve Hilton moved to California in 2012 when he started to host a TV show — The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton — and podcasts: California Rebel Base, The Steve Hilton Show, Big Ideas Book Club. In Steve's own words "Through my policy organization, Golden Together, I’ve set out the changes we need to make to get this state back on track.

Over the last few years, I’ve traveled the state, meeting people from all walks of life and backgrounds, in every part of California. I’ve spent time with business owners and workers in every industry, struggling with the absolute nightmare it’s become to start and grow a company here. I’ve seen the struggles so many Californians face raising a family given the unbelievable costs of living here."

Steve blamed sanctuary policies on the recent LA riots:  “This all could have been avoided if we didn’t have the sanctuary policy here in California. The reason that you have these kinds of operations is because the local law enforcement refuses to cooperate with ICE. That’s why they have to go into the community.”

Kristina Irwin CA State Senate, District 24

In Michael’s own words “In public office, accountability isn't a suggestion. It's a requirement. I hold myself, especially in public office, to the highest standards of accountability. For me, accountability rules out personal interests or agendas in decision-making. …

Transparency, accountability, and a grassroots effort are at the heart of my campaign. I believe in common sense solutions that prioritize the needs of the people and promote independence and self-reliance. It is essential to restore trust in our government by being honest, forthright, and committed to serving the best interests of the American people.”
